  • internal sandhi will generally occur:
         dṛś -> dṛṣṭa; budh -> buddha; yuj -> yukta
  • roots usually use weakened forms:
         bandh -> baddha; stambh -> stabdha; vac -> ukta; yaj -> iṣṭa
  • roots ending in -m or -n usually lose the nasal:
         gam -> gata; yam -> yata; man -> mata
  • some roots ending in ā are changed to ī:
         pā -> pīta;
  • some roots will insert an i before the -ta:
         paṭh -> paṭhita; khād -> khādita; cal -> calita; cumb -> cumbita
  • a few roots (usually ending in -d) take -na instead of -ta:
         chid -> chinna; pad -> panna
  • some important irregular forms:
         dā -> datta; sthā -> sthita; dhā -> hita; hā -> hīna; tṝ -> tīrṇa
